Development Funding

Got a great story idea that needs a nudge for development? Maybe we can help.

Knowledge provides development funding to BC-based producers only for a limited number of documentary ideas. Development funding is available in the amount of $2,000 to $5,000, up to a maximum of 50% of the development budget.

Further development funds from BC Film may also be available for BC producers for up to 50% of Knowledge's development contribution. Development funds are advanced as part of the production license fee in the case that the project advances to the production phase.

Development funding can be used to:

• Create a demo or trailer of the film being proposed
• Travel for interviews or research (including accommodation, airfare, per diems, travel expenses)
• Research fees and materials

Please note, acceptance into our development program does not guarantee your project will go into production with Knowledge. We will develop more projects than we can move into production. If your project ends up being commissioned by another broadcaster, you will be asked to pay back our development funding and you may need to acknowledge Knowledge in your credits.
