How can a hospital refuse to treat a highly contagious patient? It seems unwise and a problem which could quickly escalate in the community, creating a huge problem. However, the employer, the hospital ,should provide a safe environment, if necessary , bringing in properly trained specialists to deal with this type of situation.
As for dangerously violent patients, it seems it should be the responsibility of the hospital to provide a safe work environment.Hence the security people seen in some episodes. I believe these patients should be fined if they are violent b/c of their own choice. For example, by ingesting drugs. In psych patients, it's a different storey. The closing of psych institutions has created a terrible mess. If housed in an institution, they would be supervised and properly medicated, rather than living on the street with all those terrible drugs.
