I live in a small community, where the hospital is the only place to go for accidents and walk-in emergencies, so not a lot of options. My cousin in Massachusetts is a Nurse Practitioner running a small walk-in clinic for emergencies. She can handle anything a doctor would handle (stitching up minor accidents, shots for tetanus prevention, flu & cold symptoms, etc.) If a patient is deemed to require more acute care she quickly sends them to an Emergency Department. People are handled quickly and effectively or sent to the place best suited for their need.
