My father-in-law suffered a stroke and was airlifted from Vernon to Vancouver General Hospital. As he was in critical condition, only one family member was permitted to be with him at one time. He arrived at midnight on a Friday which left me to experience the waiting room at the VGH Emergency Room for many hours by myself in the middle of the night. Sitting there for hours gave me great insight into the microcosm of an Emergency Room and I feel quite thankful that services like this are freely accessible to us. I now have great respect for everyone that makes such a hospital run from Security, paramedics & law enforcement, medical practitioners and the multitude of other hospital staff. Never a dull moment, it would seem.
