Knowledge Network Launches Two BC-Produced Original Kids' Series This Fall

Kate & Mim-Mim and Lah-Lah’s Adventures premiere September 1 on Knowledge Network and BBC Kids.

VANCOUVER, August 18, 2014 – British Columbia’s Knowledge Network and BBC Kids are set to premiere two made-in-BC series, Kate & Mim-Mim and Lah-Lah’s Adventures, on September 1. As the commissioning broadcasters in Canada for these two original children’s series, Knowledge Network and BBC Kids worked with many of Vancouver’s most talented members of the animation industry to bring the magic of these two series alive for audiences across Canada and around the world.

“We are proud to support British Columbia’s creative sector. B.C. has a deep talent pool of independent producers who are key partners in the creation of our original content,” said Rudy Buttignol, President and CEO of Knowledge Network Corporation and President of BBC Kids.

“We are thrilled to work with Nerd Corps Entertainment and Bardel Entertainment, two dynamic and innovative, B.C.-based animation companies. Our investment leveraged significant additional funding for the production of two outstanding children’s series that will premiere across Canada this fall and be distributed internationally.”

Kate & Mim Mim is a stunning 3D-animated preschool series developed and produced by Vancouver-based Nerd Corps Entertainment with financial participation from Fremantle Media, Shaw Rocket Fund and Société Radio Canada. The series takes viewers into the fantastical world of five-year-old Kate and her favourite plush bunny Mim-Mim, who becomes a larger than life playmate whenever Kate’s curiosity stirs her imagination.

“We’re extremely proud of Kate & Mim-Mim as our first preschool show,” said Asaph Fipke, CEO and Founder of Nerd Corps Entertainment. “It’s an original production that’s full of beautiful artwork and unique characters, and we’re thrilled to be working on it with such great partners as Knowledge Network and BBC Kids. We can’t wait to bring Kate & Mim-Mim to Canadian kids and parents, and more audiences worldwide.”

Also new to BBC Kids and Knowledge Network’s top-rated preschool schedule is Lah-Lah’s Adventures, an international co-production with Bardel Entertainment and Australia’s Stella Projects, with financial participation from partners including the Canada Media Fund. The series introduces kids to a world of music and instruments with lead singer Lah-Lah and band members Buzz and Lola, Squeezy Sneezy, Tom Tom and Mister Saxophone. In this official co-production, the live-action music performances were shot in Sydney, Australia, with script-writing and animated backdrops produced in Vancouver.

"We are very proud to partner with our local broadcaster, Knowledge Network, on our new children's series Lah-Lah's Adventures,” said Delna Bhesania, CEO of Bardel Entertainment Inc. “Their partnership with BBC Kids also gives us national visibility and exposes our thriving animation industry in British Columbia.”

Kate & Mim Mim and Lah-Lah’s Adventures make their debut across Canada on September 1, exclusively on Knowledge Network in B.C. and on BBC Kids across the country:
