Anny Scoones

"It is truly a comfort to have something stable and steady like Knowledge that’s always there for me."

Anny Scoones has always had a positive way of looking at life – an attitude that’s found its way into her writing. Her books are filled with quirky humour and gentle wisdom about family, life and home. She’s lived on a heritage farm in North Saanich and now resides on a leafy street in Victoria’s James Bay neighbourhood, minutes away from the ocean.

Anny sees a lot of connections between how she and Knowledge view the world. “It’s this positive, delightful way of looking at things,” she says. “I also feel that Knowledge tries, like I do in my books, to maintain a sense of integrity and intelligence and honesty.”

While Anny has enjoyed watching Knowledge over the years, since she’s started chemo treatments for cancer, it’s become even more vital. On the days when side effects are at their worst and all she can do is rest in her living room with her dog Archie and a cup of ginger tea, she enjoys the soothing sounds of Radio City on Knowledge, which helps to ease her through the day.

“It is truly a comfort to have something stable and steady like Knowledge that’s always there for me,” she says. “People think watching TV is indulgent. But there are times in your life when you have to make room for really good quality indulgence. That’s what Knowledge is, quality indulgence. Just like cheesecake!”

A regular donor, Anny recently decided to make a Legacy gift to Knowledge, in the hopes that it can give someone comfort when they need it or change their perspective for the better. “You never know when you’re going to be inspired. You never know when you’re going to see something that changes your life. So why not support something that sets out to do just that?”
