It’s hard for me to think of any other network or channel out there where you have everything from educational documentaries to content that is local to BC to foreign dramas.

A Matter of Trust

Melissa Pynn credits Midsomer Murders for getting her hooked on Knowledge several years ago. Big into crime dramas at the time, she saw it in the TV guide and thought she’d give it a try. Today it’s still one of her favourite shows. She started tuning into Knowledge more often and was impressed by the diversity of the programming. “It’s hard for me to think of any other network or channel out there where you have everything from educational documentaries to content that is local to BC to foreign dramas,” she says. “I think as British Columbians we’re lucky to have it.”

Born and raised in Prince George, Melissa has lived in BC for most of her life except for a couple of years in Edmonton when she did her physiotherapy schooling. After working at hospitals in Prince George and the Fraser Health region, she has now settled in Kelowna. A relatively new Knowledge Partner, she feels that the younger generation should take an active role in supporting organizations that are important to them. “If you start early, it just kind of becomes part of your lifestyle, and something you’ll continue with as you move through life.”

For Melissa, trust is an important part of public broadcasting and Knowledge in particular. “I think the fact that it is commercial-free and doesn’t have corporate sponsors behind it helps, especially as a lot of the support is coming from us, the public and the donors. We can have faith in Knowledge and can rest easy putting our trust in it.”
